Paul's Bio

Picture

Paul

With an academic background in psychology, higher education, student affairs, and counseling, Paul has worked with 17-25 year olds his entire professional life -- helping them to recognize and realize their potential is paramount for ensuring success.

Paul comes to Charlottesville having spent more than three decades as a Dean at a liberal arts college in northern New England. During that time, he worked with students who struggled to make adequate progress toward conventional markers of academic success. With a specific emphasis on helping students to rediscover their strengths and talents, he works tirelessly to motivate young men and women to succeed in all aspects of their lives. The following is a short list of student concerns with which he has experience...
  • Underperforming at academic tasks; possibly due to:
    • Organizational skills/Time management
      • working hard, with few results
    • Ability to transition between tasks/Focus
    • Prioritizing competing projects:
      • balancing time for self, family, hobbies, sports, and academic expectations
    • Trusting that completed work is acceptable, sufficient, and a true representation of one's talent
    • Getting started - moving beyond the, "I don't know what my teacher/professor wants" excuse
  • Working through family dynamics that may impede progress
  • Addressing behavioral choices that may lead/have led to dismissal or suspension
  • Acting as a liaison between students and their faculty
